ACL is announcing four new Assistive Technology (AT) Alternative Financing Program (AFP) discretionary grant awards. Nearly $2 million over one year will fund four projects:
  • Bridging the Gap: CreditAble
    • Grantee: Friends of Disabled Adults and Children, Too! Inc. (Georgia)
  • Expanding Assistive Technology Lending in Idaho and Across the Pacific Northwest
    • Grantee: Northwest Access Fund 
  • Expansion of PATF's Lending Programs and Financial Education Program in Pennsylvania and Kentucky

    Older adults and people with disabilities are disproportionately impacted by all types of disasters. Disabled people and older adults may not be able to evacuate, access shelters, and receive information in accessible formats. They may lose critical home and community-based services and be unnecessarily forced into institutional settings (such as nursing homes), or even experience higher fatality rates.

    ACL has awarded three grants totaling over $1.3 million to assist with recovery efforts in Hawaii, Guam, and Mississippi due to disasters that included wildfires, a typhoon, and tornadoes.The Hawaii Department of Health Executive Office on Aging received over $1.1 million. The Guam Department of Public Health and Social Services Division of Senior Citizens received $200,000. The Mississippi Department of Human Services Division of Aging and Adult Services received $10,000.

    In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, RSA was proud to take part in episode 119 of the VR Workforce Studio podcast, 

    Some groups of people have been excluded from health research in the past. These include people with disabilities, as well as racial and ethnic minorities, and sexual and gender minorities. The All of Us Research Program wants to make sure that everyone is seen and counted.

    "No Research About Us Without Us" reflects the feedback and input of many people. This statement highlights the importance of All of Us to advance better health for all, and the ways that All of Us is striving for deeper inclusivity.
