Centers for Independent Living and Health Care Contracting
A new Business Institute report, Centers for Independent Living 2023 Health Care Contracting Profile, provides insights into how Centers for Independent Living (CILs) are working with health care entities—particularly Medicaid managed care plans—to address health-related social needs and support independent living for people with disabilities. Nearly half of responding CILs currently hold contracts with health care entities, offering services such as independent living skills training, case management and institutional transition. However, challenges persist, including a lack of awareness among health care partners and payment delays. The report also highlights the benefits of contracting, such as increased visibility and expanded services and explores CILs’ interest in future partnerships.
