Policies to Support Community Health Worker Programs for Populations With Complex Needs

In a recent blog post, The Better Care Playbook interviewed Carl Rush, principal consultant for Community Resources, LLC and senior technology advisor for the National Association of Community Health Workers, to increase understanding of the association's current and future policies related to supporting people with complex needs. Community Health Workers (CHWs) are direct care workers who share lived experience with and often come from the communities they serve. CHWs support connections between communities and health systems and build trust with patients due to their shared backgrounds. The blog post addresses issues such as the range of roles CHWs can play including advancing equity; key barriers to implementing and sustaining CHWs in agencies; payment models; and developing policy strategies to support CHWs.
