The IL-NET National Training & Technical Assistance (T&TA) Center operated by ILRU in collaboration with NCIL, APRIL, and the University of Montana Rural Institute and RTC: Rural, supports CILs and SILCs in building capacity to run strong, effective disability-led organizations.

The roles of CIL Board Members and CIL Staff are often misunderstood and can quickly get muddled. If one or the other oversteps their responsibilities, you’ll have a less effective and efficient work environment. There are different ways to approach this. We will look at best practices that CIL Staff and Board Members can use to ensure that the Center runs smoothly.

In this training, attendees will learn how to:

  • Clarify what the Executive Director does, what the board Chair does, and the role of the full board. 
  • Apply Independent Living Philosophy in the composition and work of the CIL board.
  • Provide CIL board members with the information they need to meet their responsibilities for overseeing the work of the Center, but not overstepping.
