Accessible Video Production – Best Practices from The Independence Center

If the pandemic has taught us anything, it is the importance of online accessibility for people both with and without disabilities. For example, features like closed captioning allow work-from-home individuals to attend meetings and watch videos without disturbing the rest of the household. They make it easier for children with learning disabilities to comprehend the subject matter. And they allow Deaf and hard of hearing individuals to participate fully in work, learning, and social opportunities.

However, creating accessible videos can be daunting for many individuals and organizations, which may lead to offering less-than-adequate features or none at all. That’s why The Independence Center, in collaboration with partners, has assembled a resource guide for creating and sharing video. Our “Accessible Video Production – Best Practices” guide offers technical tips, best practices for closed captioning, ASL, and audio description, vendor recommendations, and cost estimates.

The Accessible Video Production Standards guidance has been provided by The Independence Center, Colorado Springs, Colorado, in collaboration with partners, and can be found in the attached document below.
