KTDRR Center Virtual Knowledge Translation Conference Request for Submission of Original Artwork

The Center on Knowledge Translation for Disability and Rehabilitation Research (KTDRR Center) is seeking original artwork to enhance our Virtual Knowledge Translation Conference to take place on the afternoons of November 6, 8, and 9, 2023. The theme for 2023 is "Tailoring Your Knowledge Translation Strategy for Your Intended Users."

This conference brings together researchers, people with disabilities, family members, and disability service providers to learn about effective ways to share research information with people with disabilities who are from underrepresented groups.

Our conference traditionally includes panelists and virtual presentations, but this year we want to include original artwork as a way to reach a broader audience and enhance the voices of people with disabilities at the conference. There is no set medium, but because we host a virtual conference, we will require high-resolution images or video of the artwork to share with our attendees.

We are open to a wide range of proposals that address at least one of the following topics:

  • The importance of relationships in the exchange of information
  • The need for more inclusive ways of generating and sharing research
  • The importance of sharing research findings with people with disabilities
  • The best ways to share research findings with people with disabilities

What Types of Artwork Should I Submit?

All artwork should:

  • Be original,
  • Be appropriate for public viewing,
  • Support enhanced understanding of one of the proposed topics, and
  • Be able to translate to a virtual environment (i.e., image, video, digital product)

We anticipate the following media being included in the conference: digital images or videos that capture an original drawing, painting, sculpture, photograph, sequential art (e.g., comic books), or mixed media work. We also welcome submissions of theatre, dance, music, or the spoken word that are captured with high-quality video and are less than 5 minutes in length.

Who is Eligible?

Those submitting artwork should be a practicing artist with a disability, over the age of 18, have previous experience creating public artwork, and be able to meet strict deadlines associated with the conference. All artists will need to agree to the terms of the commission opportunity and consent to images and/or video of their artwork being shared by KTDRR Center during and after the conference through its website, social media, or other channels.

Because this is a virtual conference, only digital representations of the artwork will be submitted. Artists will retain the physical embodiment of the artwork. All artists who are commissioned by the KTDRR Center conference and meet the eligibility criteria, timelines, and deliverable requirements will be provided a gift card of $250.
